Kapa Haka

Cockle Bay School has two Kapa Haka groups, the junior group for years 1-3 and the senior group for years 4-6. The students learn a variety of songs with actions and perform regularly at school assemblies. The senior students in particular also learn elements of tikanga Māori, such as pōwhiri, which allows them to represent the school at official functions and welcome visitors to the school.

There is also the Kōanga festival which happens every year. In the past, we have taken a large group of 60 students to the festival, who performed well and had a great time.
