2025 Enrolments

If your child is turning 5 in 2025 and you have not yet completed an enrolment form, please do so now. Knowing student numbers is crucial for effective school planning and the allocation of resources (classrooms, teachers, and other essentials). Forms can be collected from the school office or downloaded from the school website.

 Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Whānau

Ministry of Education Guidance

The Ministry of Education has provided guidance on student attendance, health and wellbeing, and each fortnight I will share this with parents. In this newsletter, I have shared information around student attendance (see below).

With school holidays approaching, it is timely for me to remind parents that holidays should be kept within the holiday timeframe where possible and that any requests for additional leave (3 days or more) should be emailed directly to me (principal@cocklebay.school.nz).

Alice in Wonderland Jnr

The first of two casts had their opening night yesterday, and performed magnificently. The standard of acting, singing, costuming and props was exceptional. The second cast has their first night tonight and we all wish them well. If you haven’t got tickets, and wish to come, there are matinees during the day on Thursday and Friday at 11am.

A heartfelt thank you to Lynnette Leggett for her leadership in the production, with excellent support from Mandy Kearney, Louise Parker and a large team of staff. We also extend a special thanks to the incredibly talented group of parents who contributed in numerous ways. Thank you also to the Howick Children’s Musical Theatre Studio for all their support, and Howick College for lending us their wonderful facilities and team of student helpers.

HPPA Dance Festival

Cockle Bay School (thanks Kimberley Rivett, staff on the night, and Stephen Moran) organised a dance festival for local schools last week, which was a lovely celebration of what talented students can do. There were two dance groups from our school who made us all proud. Thanks go to the students for their preparations and to the coaches Mandy Kearney and Louise Parker.

HPPA Literacy Quiz

A phenomenal win! We are incredibly proud of our Year 5/6 Literacy teams who competed at the HPPA Literacy Quiz. One of our teams came 1st and the other team came 7th. A fantastic result given there were 37 teams in total. Well done to our two teams and their amazing Lit Quiz support team who have coached them and supported them.
